EDION applies a separate procedure and a handling fee for tax refunds, so allow a little extra time at the counter.

Tax-free at EDION requires that you have lived outside Japan for more than two consecutive years, that your total spend at one store in one day is 5,000 yen or more excluding tax, and that you leave Japan within 90 days of purchase. Goods are inspected at departure, so keep them in your hand luggage. From 1 November 2026, Japan's tax-free system changes from a point-of-sale exemption to a refund collected at the airport on departure. Check the current terms in store.
